The Philip C. Jessup Competition was established in 1959 as a competition in international law, which is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. To date, the Jessup Competition is the largest and the most prestigious international law competition in English.

On 2 February 2020 MGIMO hosted the Final Round of the Russian National Championship of the Jessup Competition – one of the most prestigious law competitions globally. The Team of Higher School of Economics (Moscow) appeared in the Final Round of the National Championship for the first time since 2017, and came as a Russian Runner-Up, after the champions of this year – the MGIMO team.
