HSE Faculty Law students have received a number of awards at the BRICS LEX MODEL
The model was held from December 1 - 3 as part of the BRICS Law School Consortium at the National Research University Higher School of Economics. The team of the Faculty of Law, consisting of representatives of the master’s program "Law of International Trade and Dispute Resolution" Polukhina Polina and Anton Leontiev, as well as Yana Podolskaya from the master's program "Lawyer in Business" and Darina Bespalova from the Bachelor's program "Jurisprudence", won the award the Third Best Team, and Top-2 Best Memorandum. In addition, Anton Leontiev took the award Top-4 Best Oralist.
This year, such a model was held for the first time and became a significant event for 11 teams from 6 countries, including India, China, South Africa, the Republic of Belarus and others.
The team expresses its deep gratitude to the organizers of the BRICS Lex Model and personally to Professor Vera Rusinova for her great contribution to the organization of the event. As well as the coach of the team Professor Vladimir Kostsov from the Department of International Law at the National Research University Higher School of Economics.
The BRICS Lex Model is a new format for an international legal competition dedicated to the diplomatic discussion on drafting an investment agreement for the BRICS countries. As part of the model's work, students had to come to a common decision and discuss all controversial issues in order to agree on a common draft investment agreement on six committees proposed for discussion: definitions of ‘Investment’ and ‘Investor’; Market Access and Treatment; Settlement of Disputes; Expropriation and Compensation; General and Security Exceptions and Obligations of the Investor.
The judges of BRICS Lex Model were leading practicing lawyers and experts in the fields of international investment law.
