Abstract

The Middle East is at the center of the global energy transition. The majority of the countries in the region are getting hydrocarbon’s profit and depending on oil pricing in the global market. So we observe continuing period of difficult transformation, but also unique opportunity for oil and gas producers looking for new economic diversification possibilities.

Learning Objectives

  • As a goal of mastering the discipline is the formation of students' professional competencies necessary for self-realization in professional activities (research, project, informationand analytical), associated with the energy sector of the countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)." The objectives of the course are to form an understanding of the deep processes of the genesis of the MENA energy markets, the role of external and internal actors. As a result of mastering the discipline, the student must master the following competencies: • know the main stages and trends in the development of energy markets of the MENA countries; • be able to search for and systematize statistical and historical material, as well as to operate with the knowledge gained; • assess the energy development of the MENA countries in historical retrospective, analyze the material studied and professionally use it for the implementation of practical tasks; • be able to explain and identify turning points in the development of the energy infrastructure of the MENA countries; • Know oil production technologies and understand their technological component; • Assess the pace of development of the modern energy complex of the MENA countries and understand the importance and place of alternative energy in its structure;

  • It is able and determines the main methods and approaches to oil production
  • Knows and divides into stages the formation of global energy markets
  • Knows and analyzesthe main features of the formation of the first concessions
  • Knows cause-and-effect relationships in the evolution of concession contracts
  • He knows and understands the reasons for the successful control of oil prices in the MENA countries. He knows the reasons for the emergence of OPEC and its role in international markets.
  • He knowsthe main reasons for the diversification of the oil market, new players and the reasons for the loss of influence on prices by the world's leading producers. Understands the importance of the OPEC+ deal for the oil market
  • Knows and understands the features of the modern oil and gas infrastructure of the region
  • Knows the main directions of development of alternative energy in the region and its main directions of development
