Competitive Advantages

The Master program "International Relations: European and Asian Studies" is aimed at training unique expert and analytical personnel. The program is practice-oriented and in its content has no analogues in Russian higher education. The existing Master programs in International Relations in Russia are focused more on deep understanding of the theory and practice of international relations or the acquisition of diplomatic service skills. At the same time, they pay very little attention to the increasingly topical issues of strengthening the relationship between the world economy and world politics, and do not deal with a comprehensive economic and political analysis of trends and processes in the international sphere. Graduates of the program will become Masters in International Relations and will be in demand in the structures of government of the Russian Federation, international organizations, research and consulting organizations, private companies, non-governmental organizations, the media. Given the fact that the program attaches particular importance to the problems of the economic and legal dimension of international relations, graduates can act as experts in the field of relations between Russian and international business with government authorities, specialists in  support of entrepreneurial activity with deep knowledge in the field of international relations, world economy and world politics, Russia's relations with the countries of Europe and Asia.

Professional Activities and Competencies of Programme Graduates

The Master program "International Relations: European and Asian Studies" prepares specialists who are able to defend the interests of the public and private sectors in two regional areas that are most important for the country: European Union ("European Studies") and Asian countries ("Asian Studies"), rapidly growing economic and political players, building up interaction with which is becoming one of the central directions of Russian foreign and foreign economic policy in the first quarter of the XXI century. The types and tasks of the professional activity of the graduates are determined through the accents and priorities made during the program and the following results of consultations with potential employers (government structures of the Russian Federation, international organizations, research and consulting organizations, private companies and non-governmental organizations , mass media).

Programme Modules

The objects of professional activity of the graduates are the European Union (for those who have chosen "European Studies") and the Asia-Pacific region (for students of "Asian Studies"). Particular attention in "European Studies" is paid to the study of European policy and EU institutions (theory and practice of public administration in EU institutions), the EU internal market, history and theory of European integration, EU law. It is also planned to teach the basics of research work to analyze and forecast the activities of the European Union. As part of the "Asian Studies" students research North-East Asia in a globalizing world, taking into account aspects of economics, politics and security; China and ASEAN as subjects of regional politics and economy; East Asian type of capitalism as a model of modernization; the influence of other regional actors on the processes in the Asia-Pacific region (USA, Russia, India, EU). There is also a research seminar on the political and economic analysis of international relations in Asia.
