Enjoy your holidays to the fullest!

A master’s student of the the HSE School of Foreign Languages Ekaterina Borisova took part in Radboud Summer School offered by the Radboud University Nijmegen (Netherlands).

This time the annual Summer School was held during the first two weeks of August. The HSE partner university had more than 30 intensive academic programmes, and the student chose the course “How to Become an Excellent Lecturer” organized by the Radboud University Department of Educational Support.

The course included lectures as well as practical classes on a wide range of topics regarding higher education in an international context. Such issues as principles of constructive course alignment, peculiarities of the graduation thesis supervision, pros and cons of using ICT, and methods of activating students during classroom meetings became the main topics of discussions. Moreover, as part of the course all the participants got an opportunity to conduct mini-lectures using interactive methods and ICT tools, thereby practicing the skills they obtained.

Ekaterina Borisova,
2nd year master's student of the HSE School of Foreign Languages

Participating in summer schools is a great opportunity to spend quality time: you can relax, get acquainted with the results of modern European research straight from the horse’s mouth, make friends with people from more than 80 countries, and travel through the small cozy towns of the Netherlands. The course “How to Become an Excellent Lecturer”, first of all, gave me an opportunity to share experience with practicing lecturers from all over the world. For instance, I was surprised to learn that in Hong Kong Baptist University professors sing karaoke with their students during integrated communications lectures, while in Israel they organize three-minute tests which students can take online - by simply installing an app on their smartphones. Besides, now I understand what a truly Dutch summer looks like! It's when you are riding to the university wearing a raincoat and holding an umbrella, and a “pleasant” rain is pouring down your cheeks. After all, you can even move mountains when you are inspired by your future profession!

Radboud University Nijmegen is one of the leading academic communities in the Netherlands with a strong focus on research. It was established on 17 October 1923 and is situated in the oldest city of the Netherlands. Renowned for its green campus, it enrolls over 19,900 students in 107 study programmes. It was internationally ranked 190th by the QS World University Rankings.
