Movement towards sources of motivation and involvement!
According to the results of the presentation of business-psychological projects on the decision of the case from the transnational automotive company Jaguar & Land Rover.
On the program “Psychology in Business” there is such a tradition - to begin the academic year with the decision of the actual case from a world-class company. From the first lesson, students are united in the analysis of a strategically important task for the organization. This helps them to quickly get involved in the process of practice-oriented learning, to see the company's problems from the perspective of business psychology, to try on the role of a business psychologist. In addition, a unique environment of interaction and support is created, which inspires and allows each student to reveal their professional qualities, to feel the support of their teachers and colleagues.
As a rule, when first-year students get acquainted with a case, many of them have doubts, but can we, have we just started training? But every year, the desire to get involved in the practice as quickly as possible, to accept the challenge from the business giants, and the “drive” from the very involvement in working on the actual task of a real company, gives confidence in success.
For several years, the case of business psychologists has been represented by the British transnational automotive corporation Jaguar Land Rover. The problem the company is working on was presented by Elena Kravets, director of product marketing and Jaguar Land Rover (Moscow, Russia). At her master class, which opened the academic year of the program, Elena showed the management's ambitious goals, highlighted the principle of the company - to accept new challenges and boldly go ahead. This year, the case was linked to the theme: “Great Line Manager: in search of motivation. Challenges and solutions from the perspective of a business psychologist. "
The fact is that Jaguar Land Rover is going through a series of serious changes that sometimes lead to problems. But in order for a problem situation to truly turn into a precious opportunity, it is necessary to understand well how people will behave and what will happen to the organization when introducing changes, and also to find adequate ways to interact. The company’s research has shown that in many countries the challenges that management faces when introducing changes concern personal factors. They are manifested in the reduction of labor efficiency, in the loss of identity, deindividualization, in the sense of excessive dissolution in the company, in the sense of their own invaluableness in the staff of the company. The experience of foreign representative offices of the company shows that in this case it is important to pay attention to non-material motivation of managers, their values, and emotional state.
Therefore, in the Russian office of the company were puzzled by the issues of involvement and motivation of employees. This topic is the best way to reveal the importance of business psychology for practice. It is business psychologists who are the specialists who can help the company's management to concentrate their best qualities for turning the problem into opportunities in the conditions of adaptation to changes.
The following questions of the case were put before the students:
• What is the content that should be the basis of training programs for directors of departments such as, for example, the Great Line Manager?
• What psychological support is necessary for the inclusion of management in the work in the concept: Inspire, Motivate and Communicate?
A month was allotted for work on projects. Under the guidance of an experienced teacher A.S. Eliseenko needed to create working groups, agree on rules, assign roles, decide on the basic idea and factual basis, find an adequate presentation style, etc. etc. This is a difficult, sometimes painful path that the guys have successfully passed. Four very interesting and truly creative business and psychological projects were prepared.
The presentation of the projects took place in the famous Jaguar Land Rover Experience, where you can experience the entire range of legendary innovative Jaguar and Land Rover brands in a dedicated space. Therefore, of course, the company provided participants with the opportunity to try out the machines at well-organized instructor master classes. Drive up and down the hill at 45 degrees, move a difficult ditch, drive around a moose or a deer that suddenly jumped out onto the road, and many more students tried to make sure that everything works out perfectly on such cars! Enthusiasm and admiration for the capabilities of cars experienced even those students who have extensive experience in driving a variety of cars.
After such an emotional shake-up, the projects were listened to. The overall assessment and feedback on the projects was carried out by people, thanks to whom the company has been dominating sales of executive cars for many years. This is Elena Kravets - marketing and product director, Ekaterina Kosminina - brand development manager, Yana Duncheva - personnel director at Jaguar Land Rover. They asked questions, gave advice, shared their impressions. This was very useful for understanding the nature of the business and identifying "growth points" in further education.
It is pleasant to note that the “strict jury” - the employees of the company, really liked the presentations of the students. They saw that there are such specialists who, knowing the basics of business, understanding the real tasks of management, help people in business to maintain a sense of dignity, confidence, the very well being that distinguishes companies that think about people. Business psychologists have pleased the company's representatives with their serious approach to studying the problem and thoroughly thought-out ideas. Each project turned out to be unique and filled with interesting solutions that can be implemented in the company in the future.
The effect of this session was also a warm, positive feeling that appeared to all participants in relation to the company and the innovations carried out in it. The motto of the company “Think about people” concerns, of course, the quality of the cars themselves. They are so good, comfortable and obedient, they create such a wonderful mood that you don’t want to leave them for long. But this also applies to people who work in the company. Employees of the office noted that they have been working in the company for many years, completely devoting themselves to business and do not want to go to other companies. They feel comfortable personally and professionally among their colleagues. In other words, the motto “Think about people” works!
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the managers of the company who inspired the project, entrusted us with the well-being of their employees: Elena Kravets, Ekaterina Kosmynina, Yana Duncheva, as well as all the wonderful employees of the company, instructors who helped to hold this wonderful event.
