Business Psychology Programme Opens up Opportunities for Successfully Studying Abroad

Upon completing her first year, our student Maria Baranova got a scholarship to study and live in the Netherlands. A year in the Psychology in Business programme helped her to study successfully at the University of Tilburg.

I first thought about studying abroad back at school. It was my ambition. I was wondering what the education there is like and whether it is different from the Russian system. I also wanted to test myself, immerse myself in a new environment, live in another country, and get new experience.

In Moscow, I received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and realized that I was more interested in the field of HR. That is why I chose Master's programme in Business Psychology. During the first year of study, it was possible to take part in several interesting projects (for example, with Jaguar) and to attend lectures by experts in their field, which was a very valuable experience and allowed us to get more specific, practical knowledge.

But the dream of studying abroad did not leave me. At the same time, it was important for me not only to go to the university, but also to get a scholarship to study. This required passing an exam in English, an exam in statistics, as well as submitting a resume, a motivation letter, and recommendations from a supervisor and a supervisor from work.

I knew that I wanted to go to the Netherlands. Not only because this country and the Dutch mentality appeal to me, but also because many Dutch universities offer programs in the field of organizational psychology, and also because almost the entire population of the country speaks fluent English.

I submitted the required set of documents to two Dutch universities and in the spring I learned that I was accepted at the University of Tilburg for the HR Studies programme. I was also awarded two scholarships: to cover my tuition (Orange Tulip Scholarship) and accommodation (Holland Scholarship).

Now I continue to study in the Netherlands and I am happy that I managed to fulfill my dream. I am very grateful to the Master's programme Psychology in Business for the fact that it equipped me with the knowledge and skills that enable me now to solve case studies more successfully and also to be active in projects here. In addition, thanks to my supervisor Alexander  Eliseenko and in general thanks to my studies at HSE University, I know how to write research papers and theses, which is quite useful for me now when I am writing my master’s thesis.
