Abstract

Project Seminar (PS) is founded as a playground; for communication between the students and the staff of the Institute of Demography and Department of Social Sciences, visiting scholars and the staff of other departments at HSE and external practitioners for the more applied tasks solution. Therefore, the purpose of the PS is not only to develop research skills but to apply these skills in preparation of the analytical papers and solutions for the development tasks and cases. By the end of the course students are expected to know how to critically assess readings, evaluate ideas and their own contribution to the field, construct their own explanatory and causality mod-els, test and verify hypotheses, analyze current social and demographic phenomena employing the most recent concepts and relevant research design and tools, to plan and elaborate their own academic research project.

Learning Objectives

The students work individually with 1 advisor from HSE or other research centres. The projects should be done in the style of the development or demographic problem description. In the project: • the main population or development problem is observed, discussed (the importance of the problem should be confirmed) and defined • The relevant literature regarding this problem is observed • the final result contains the review of the best practices for this problem solution
The student could also take part in the research and practical activity for any research unit of HSE, another possible activity is participation in the expeditions or the projects from the HSE Research Projects Fairy. In both cases the student also makes the final presentation where the importance of the activity is highlighted, problem is specified and the review for the best practic-es is provided

Expected Learning Outcomes

Описывает структуру, виды проектного исследования, способы проблематики темы исследования;
Использует основные методологии академического и прикладного исследования для успешного написания отчета о проделанной в ходе проекта работе;
Работает, оформляет согласно установленным на программе требованиям техническое задание и отчет по проектной деятельности.

Course Contents

Правила и порядок реализации проектной работы в НИУ ВШЭ, виды проектной деятельности
Проектная работа в университете: особенности, сущность, место в учебном процессе. Цели и задачи проектной работы. Виды проектов и особенности каждого вида
Процедура и сроки подготовки проектной документации (техническое задание, отзыв руководителя)
Этапы подготовки проекта: заполнение ТЗ, согласование с руководителем проекта графика выполнения работ, распределение задач между участниками проекта, обсуждение хода выполнения работ с руководителем проекта
Отчет о результатах проектной деятельности
Составление отчета: основные требования к отчету, правила оформления отчета, презентация полученных результатов, получение отзыва от организатора проектной деятельности
Подготовка проекта
Консультация с руководителем проекта, выполнение заданий, обсуждение результатов в аудитории
Презентация проекта
Результатом доработки заявки на дипломный проект является подготовка двух анимированных презентаций: первая представляет тему визуального исследования, вторая - итоговую тему дипломного проекта.
