What Does It Cost to Save Food

The conference dubbed "WHAT DOES IT COST TO SAVE FOOD" was organized by The Liaison Office with the Russian Federation (LOR) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) in collaboration with Messe Düsseldorf on the 29th of January 2019 in Moscow.  In this conference, our student, Yaw Owusu Ansah, worked as a volunteer for FAO as part of his internship duties with this international organization.

The Conference demonstrated the urgent need for closer cooperation among government authorities, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and the expert community to build public consensus around the conundrum of food loss and waste. Such cooperation would be instrumental for developing an effective national strategy, including a legislative framework, that could help the Russian Federation fulfill its obligations with respect to the targets under the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular, Target 12.3. – cutting in half per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer level, and reducing food losses along production and supply chains (including post-harvest losses) by 2030.
