Humanitarian Action Seminar Series with Oxfam Russia

Humanitarian Action is a course led by Professor Sanjay Rajhans from the Department of  Public Policy for students of the master program of the Public Policy and the Masters program of Population and Development.

This  course takes a critical lookat the humanitarian actions in the context of the history, legal framework, and its theoretical underpinnings. OxFam International is  a reputable international  humanitarian action organization. This year itcollaborated  with the Department of Political Analysis and Public Policy toeducate students of the course on the issues of contemporary actions.

This great experts and field practiconers  from differet parts of the world in OxFam gave three consecutive seminars on humanitarian actions. The first seminar took place on November 19, 2020. The topic discussed was devoted to Gender Issues in Humanitarian Actions and was presented by Edith Muluhya, a Global Gender Adviser of OxFam. The subsequent seminar happened on

November 26, 2020. The topic of discussion was Community Engagement in Humanitarian Crisis. The discussion was led by Michelle Farrington, a specialist in Public Health and Community Engagement. The final seminar was on Social

Protection in Humanitarian Response. The discussion was led Lerissa Pelham, from the Global Humanitarian Team.

The discussions of the series were very interactive. Students were put into groups to work as a team and share ideas on questions of humanitarian actions. Sections of the seminar were also devoted to ‘Questions and Answers’, which further led to interesting conversations.

The humanitarian action seminar series with Oxfam is laudable, as it broughtstudents closer to the practical issues of humanitarian action and experts dealing with these issues. The series provided students with up-to-date information on contemporary issues of humanitarian action.

The students showed enthusiasmand participated in the discussions. Some students from Africa and other parts ofthe world shared their experience on the current questions of humanitarianactions.

 The report underscores   that the collaboration between the Department of Political Analysis and Public Policy in organizing the Humanitarian Actions seminars should be continued due to its usefulness for the students.
