Lecture of Valentina Frolova during class 'Gender and Development'

On February, 25, during class "Gender and Development", Valentina Frolova, lawyer of the Union of Women's NGOs, gave a guest lecture in the format of a round table. Students of "Population and Development", "Comparative Social Research programmes as well as international students and professors - Olga Isupova and Valeria Utkina attended the event.

Valentina Frolova talked about Russian legislation regarding domestic violence and cases she has worked on. The event was quite impressive and lively because all participants shared their experiences, which included ideas from different countries. Some students presented their projects too. At the ens, the main conclusion was that policy and vision differ from region to region. On of the cornerstone, issues is how people can justify domestic violence while suffering from it personally. The other question was on how to raise awareness of people on ways they can protect themselves and others in such cases.
It is crucial to discuss the issue of domestic violence and include it on the agenda to fight it. And the opportunity to share opinions with the expert in the field was valuable for all participants.
