An interview with the representative of Oxfam

In October, Zorica Skakun, from Oxfam GB in Syria, led two workshops on various aspects of violence against women for students of the ‘Population and Development’ Master’s programme. During the workshops, Ms Skakun gave an overview of international frameworks, mandates, and programmes aimed to end violence against women (VAW) and help survivors in various settings, including conflict zones and refugee camps. The students were also offered a group exercise where they brainstormed and presented ideas for pre-project problem analysis and activities to combat VAW in Syria

On October 3rd and 4th Zorica Skakun, a gender coordinator for Oxfam GB in Yemen who provides support and leadership to ensure women's rights, presented two workshops on various aspects of violence against women for students of the programme "Population and Development".

Getting Familiar with UN Activities in Russia and Worldwide.

On May 24th students of the programme "Population and Development" met Dr. Melita Vujnovic, World Health Organization Representative in Russia, who gave a talk on the agency’s perspectives and ambitious plans for the nearest future. She kindly answered all the questions, encouraged to get familiar with WHO latest reports, and recommend to apply for internships.

Students visited the United Nations office in Russia

February 16, Population and Development Master’s students visited the United Nations office in Russia where they had a chance to get familiar with the activities of various UN agencies. In their presentations, representatives of UNDP, UN Information Centre, FAO, and UNAIDS covered the topics, such as the organisational structure of the agencies, previous and current projects in both Russia and abroad, and internship and job opportunities.

Stephen G. Wheatcroft gave a lecture for the students

On October 9 Stephen G. Wheatcroft who is professor of the School of Historical Studies, University of Melbourne gave a lecture for the students from Population and Development programme. His research interests include Russian pre-revolutionary and Soviet social, economic and demographic history, as well as famine and food supply problems in modern world history.
