Our student Alina Gegamova took part in the international conference on IHL

Recently Alina Gegamova, Master’s student of the 2nd year of study, participated in the 9th Yerevan International Conference for Young Researchers on International Humanitarian Law (IHL), which was held in Yerevan, Republic of Armenia.

The conference was organized by the Russian-Armenian University (RAU) in cooperation with the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Armenia (ICRC). The working language was English.

The Conference is a unique international platform for the discussion of contemporary issues and perspectives related to IHL development among young scholars. Since 2007 the geography of the Conference has grown: during these years there were participants from Argentina, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Czech Republic, Georgia, Estonia, Hungary, Ireland, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, Sweden, Tajikistan, Ukraine, United Kingdom, USA.

Alina Gegamova presented the report, dedicated to the topic “Destruction of Cultural Heritage in Armed Conflicts: case of Syria”, related to her 1st year term paper and her Master’s thesis under the scientific supervision of the professor Boris Kashnikov. In her presentation she was talking about philosophical issues and also legal aspects of protection of cultural heritage and the responsibility for its destruction.
