Project

What is a project?

Unlike lectures and seminars, a project is an independently organized activity of a student carried out under the guidance of a project supervisor. Officially, it aims at finding a solution to a practical or theoretically significant problem. Actually, project work is about learning by doing.

What does participation in a project provide a student with?

Project work allows students to acquire, consolidate or develop specific knowledge or practical skills crucial for professional activities in the future and some experience of self-organization.

How many credits does the project have to be?

The curriculum of the Master's programme "Politics. Economics. Philosophy" contains an element "Project of the student's choice" (Проект по выбору студента). This year’s students need to complete a project for 3 credits in the 1st year and 3 credits in the 2nd year of studies

Where can I find projects?

Typically, projects are initiated by the University, by the faculty members, research labs, etc. Students may also initiate and complete their own projects. Students may join labs, project and grant groups to get the project work done. There is a wide variety of choices. To learn more about the ongoing projects and make informed choices, students may use the all-University Project Fair (Ярмарка проектов) . Please note, that projects don’t have to be completed solely in english, but that is highly preferable.

The choice of a project is based on one's academic and professional interests and abilities. However, the choice is to be reviewed by the academic supervisor of the Programme. We strongly advise students to choose among research and applied projects and to avoid the so-called service projects (projects of this type are not to be awarded credits).

What should I do once I've secured a place in a project?

A student submits an application for approval to the academic supervisor after securing confirmation of participation in the project from his supervisor. If a student initiates his or her own project, a project proposal (see attached form) is to be filled in and sent to the study office.

Those who have signed up to projects via the Project Fair system, keep in mind that if «Politics. Economics. Philosophy» program is not among those in the limitations section, the project will need to be approved by the academic supervisor.

Without this confirmation and application the project will be considered as a facultative project (meaning outside of the study program norm) and will not be counted as part of the necessary 6 credits of project work of your studies on the program.

After finishing their projects, students should provide the project evaluation sheet signed by the project supervisor to the study office.

When should the project be complete?

- 1st year students are to complete the projects of their choice by the end of the 4th module.

- 2nd year students are to complete the projects of their choice by the end of the 3rd module

Students who have not completed the projects within the specified time frame will have an academic failure. In addition, 2nd year students will not be allowed to pass the final state certification.
