Project activity of the students

Every year, on 10th of December, Human Rights day is celebrated across the globe. Students of Public Policy Department at HSE organize a series of events to promote human rights in the university, to discuss and share opinions. This year, because of the pandemic, “human Rights Week” is postponed and will be taking place online, but students still found a way to work in the field through their project activity

Project activity of the students

Every year, on 10th of December, Human Rights day is celebrated across the globe. Students of Public Policy Department at HSE organize a series of events to promote human rights in the university, to discuss and share opinions. This year, because of the pandemic, “human Rights Week” is postponed and will be taking place online, but students still found a way to work in the field through their project activity.

Some of the most prominent Russian HR organizations – “OVD-info”, “Moscow Helsinki Group”, “«Amnesty International Russia” as well as Anti-corruption laboratory in HSE, UNICEF Kazakhstan and Norwegian company  offered their platforms and researches for students to work on in the field of human rights and public policy.

Project vary from theoretical to more practical ones. For example, within the «Bridging actual data and academia» project at OVD-Info, students will create reports on databases and different scientific journals n gender issues, urban studies, politics etc. Members of «Freedom of assembly: International Experience» project will focus on the topic of freedom of assembly in Russia.

“Moscow Helsinki group” offered to work on a very recent and pressing issue – influence of coronavirus on a justice system in Russia. Other teams will work on regional development of human rights, ombudsman mechanisms, etc.

 “Amnesty International”, which is a long-time partner of the department, will collaborate with students on organization of HR training and the topics of domestic violence, freedom of assembly in Russia.

So, the students of “Public policy and political analysis” can gain a significant experience in the field they are studying in to later us in their portfolios to advance in their careers.
