This programme provides students with knowledge to develop and adapt both new and international existing tools for measuring competencies, skills, personality characteristics, educational outcomes, and other latent constructs, while also engaging in analysis and helping to improve such skills. These competences are in demand in psychology, online and face-to-face training, HR, business, marketing, political science, and various other fields.
Students participate in practical research with an international focus, learn how to create and validate tests, questionnaires, and interview guides. They will also be able to measure and assess the quality of education for external and internal requests, build careers for themselves in HR consulting, commercial and government agencies, or continue research and academic activities in Russia and abroad.
We train psychometricians - specialists who know how to measure skills for the 21st century (e.g., creativity), can develop measurement tools and procedures for any task, analyze and interpret data accumulated by online educational platforms, institutes, and other types of clients.
The programme is recognized internationally. Moreover, it has been developed with the assistance of the Center for Educational Assessment at the University of Massachusetts. Also, professors from Cito (Netherlands), Stanford University and Boston College (USA) are among the visiting faculty under this programme.
The programme has been developed in line with international professional and educational standards. In 2016, it was independently audited by psychometricians with experience in managing similar programmes offered by the University of British Columbia (Canada) and Umeå University (Sweden).
The programme also offers many internship and employment opportunities to students. From the very start of studies, you can get immersed in the work of the Institute of Education’s centres and participate in their research projects, including international efforts.
You can find yourself in this profession regardless of your previous education, but you should definitely be interested in research methodology, test development, and data collection and analysis. Fluent English would also be a plus.
You will obtain extensive knowledge and skills for carrying out research in psychology and education, as well as social sciences and humanities, while also learning about core methods and statistical packages. In addition, you will take part in:
Master classes with international experts—the programme brings in researchers, consultants and lecturers from top universities around the world;
Field research and international projects—Master's students regularly trips to different cities in Russia participate in education quality measurements, which are important to the Russian and international community (PIRLS, TIMSS, PISA, etc.)
Many Master’s students receive job offers during their studies. Most often they end up working for:
- research laboratories and centres at HSE University or other organizations that assess the quality of education, as well as analyze and develop tools for measuring various educational competencies;
- research centres and other organizations involved in the development and adaptation of psycho-diagnostic methods;
- testing centres and educational management organizations at various levels;
- HR departments of private and public sector companies or their own staff valuation firms.
