Term Papers and Master's Thesis

Students of the Master’s Program “Russian Studies” are expected to submit two pieces of written research.

Term Paper is a master’s Student research conducted during the 1st year of studies and optimally is the first stage of Master’s Thesis research preparation.

Master’s Thesis is an individual research work of a Student conducted under the general supervision of a Supervisor during the 2nd year of studies.

The working language of Term Paper and Master’s Theses is English.

The procedures related to Term Paper and Master’s Thesis are defined by the HSE Regulations for Term Papers and Theses:

Topic and Supervisor Selection and Application

Applications for the supervisor and the topic of the term paper / master’s thesis have to be submitted before November 20th.

A pool of supervisors and topics offered to the Russian Studies programme is published in the LMS after October 15th, 14:00, in Module "Course Themes" (instructions are currently only in Russian). You can select one of those topics and individualize it during your communication with the supervisor.

Some of the potential supervisors and their areas of academic interests are listed in this file:

Students can also select any other supervisor and/or topic according to their academic interests.

Individual topics are to be suggested and discussed with the head of the programme no later than November 10th.

The choice of topic and supervisor has to be approved by the head of the programme.
