HSE University has appeared in 10 subject areas and six subject categories of the Expert Analytical Centre ranking of university research productivity. Moreover, HSE ranked 1st in five areas and two sections.

In this ranking, Russian universities are assessed solely according to scientometric indicators, without taking into subjective or survey indicators. This year, HSE improved its position in the ranking and has become leader in Mathematics and Medicine. What’s more, for the fourth year in a row, HSE has taken 1st place in Economics, Social Sciences and Humanities. Furthermore, this year, the ranking’s authors put Economics and Management into two separate subjects for the first time, with our university taking in the top positions of both categories.

In addition, HSE has maintained its position in Computer Science, taking the 4th place, as well as joined the newly created AI category (2nd/3rd place). The university is also represented in Biochemistry (6th place), Earth Sciences and Ecology (9th-11th place) and the narrow categories for Ecology’ (9th/10th place) and Earth Sciences (12th place), Engineering (11th-13th place), Physics and Astronomy (14th place), and Materials Science (24th/ 25th place).

The Russian university ranking, which can compare the bibliometric activity of more than a hundred universities in various subjects, has been published since 2016. This ranking assesses the scientometric indicators of a university within three equal categories: quality of growth; effectiveness of research activities; scale and stability of research activities.

The ranking’s methodology was not subject to conceptual changes this year. Nevertheless, in addition to 14 rankings in broad subject areas, seven narrower categories, such as Economics, Management, Earth Sciences, Ecology, Metallurgy, AI and Biochemistry, were developed.
