The Master's program "Data Analytics and Social Statistics" at the FSS Open Day

The traditional spring open day at Faculty of Social Sciences was held in an unusual format – offline, at the Cultural Center on Pokrovsky Boulevard. Both undergraduate and graduate programs were represented. Program representatives gave presentations simultaneously on two stages. Students and faculty from all educational programs of the Faculty of Social Sciences sat at separate tables in the lobby. Applicants clearly enjoyed the new format.

Thank you to everyone who spent this Saturday with us at the Cultural Center of the National Research University Higher School of Economics on Pokrovka. Here's how it went:

Irina Pavlova and Ivan Klimov presented the master's program "Data Analytics and Social Statistics," discussed the 2026 admissions rules, and how individual achievements are taken into account.

Broadcast recording:

Our team, who spent the entire day of March 21st communicating with applicants, wishes all applicants successful preparation and looks forward to welcoming them to the Faculty of Social Sciences on September 1st!

This year, our traditional faculty spring open day took a slightly unusual format. We presented the program on stage. What's unusual is that we're holding online presentations for our prospective students. While there was a live stream, we actually presented in person in a very large auditorium. I think it's important, even for an online program, to create these opportunities to share information with an offline audience. We were thrilled to see applicants interested in our program and to connect with them in person.

This year, our application deadlines are slightly different – officially, applications for the program are now accepted strictly in the summer, beginning on June 20th. However, this year we're participating in the "Early Invitation to Admission" competition, where applicants can submit their applications in the spring and receive points for their portfolios as early as possible before the summer application process begins. Another important change this year is that the academic year will begin on September 1st, rather than October 1st, as it has in recent years. It was important to inform our potential students about these changes.

The most interesting thing about events like these is listening to the needs and understanding the interests of applicants and potential students. I believe it's important not to "sell" a program at all costs. It's more important to analyze the alignment between what's needed and what we can offer—or what we can't. In my view, this is not only honesty but also a growth opportunity for us.

Representatives of the educational programs took their mission seriously—to present the maximum educational opportunities from the HSE Faculty of Social Sciences. It was a joy to see colleagues and students from a wide range of programs. I was able to tour the large two-story hall and speak with representatives of almost all the undergraduate and graduate programs. If you want to decide in one day where to apply, then these open days are definitely for you.

Since all classes in our master's program are held online, in-person meetings are a rare occurrence for the faculty. Therefore, it was especially gratifying to see our applicants in person and have the opportunity to quickly and easily answer their questions.
