ANR-Lab discussed how network analysis helps study the labor market.

On May 28, a webinar "From Job Networks to Dream Jobs" was held as part of the Open Day for the online master's program "Data Analytics and Social Statistics." The event was led by Irina Pavlova, the program's academic director, and Daniil Kovalev, a research assistant at the HSE International Laboratory for Applied Network Research.

The speakers discussed how network and multimodal analysis methods can be applied to labor market research, analyzing job openings, professional roles, in-demand skills, and potential career paths. Particular attention was paid to analytical professions – from data analysts and business analysts to data scientists.  

Using a research project as an example, participants were shown how job openings, skills, employers, and professional roles can be represented as networks. This approach allows for the identification of intersections between professions, identifying unique and common competencies, and assessing which skills may be useful for career transitions.  

The webinar also served as an example of how methods taught in the "Data Analytics and Applied Statistics" program are applied to solving practical problems – from analyzing labor market data to developing recommendation systems for job seekers and educational programs.
