MASNA Graduation 2025
On July 4, the graduation of the Master's program "Applied Statistics with Network Analysis", MASNA (now - "Data Analytics and Social Statistics", DASS) took place.
11 students from the 2023 cohort successfully defended their final qualification work and became masters.
The diploma presentation ceremony took place in the HSE building on Pokrovsky Boulevard with online connection of graduates from other countries.
The heads of the master's program and laboratory gave speeches.

I think that the master program on applied statistics with network analysis is quite a good one. Something that not many programs like that exist in the world. I mean, especially combination with statistics and network analysis as the goal of this program is, I think this topic is extremely important today. And especially when big data are around, to be able to analyze the data, to be critical to the obtained results, and to get some new knowledge out of the data.
Head of ANR-Lab
In these two years, we became colleagues and friends with some of you; me and my colleagues were very happy to work with you during the classes, your course works and masters’ theses. I believe that you also met great people and friends during this adventurous time. We were very happy to gather so many unique people with their own backgrounds and spheres of interests, at the same program. Being here for two years, I believe you did not only grow up on your own and enriched each other, but also increased the quality of our program. We’ve learned a lot from you.

I truly hope that applying to our master’s program was your greatest decision, and that completing the program will prove to be an even better one. I truly believe that the Higher School of Economics is one of the best universities in Russia and definitely in the world. Be open to new knowledge, be joyful, be passionate. Accept my congratulations on this great day!
Academic supervisor of the master's programme “Data Analytics and Social Statistics”
You have not just graduated and received your degrees – you have learned how to turn curves into order, to find meaning in numbers, and sometimes to predict the future. There is an endless field ahead of experiments, discoveries, and new questions. Because a good analyst is not someone who knows all the calculated answers, but someone who knows how to ask the right question.
The newly minted masters also shared their impressions of the two years of study in the program:
- Maria Ermolaeva:
“And despite all the difficulties and all the challenges and all the deadlines that we had, we made it, and I believe that each of us has grown. And I believe that it is a living community, it is a place where we can continue to grow and to explore.”
- Kayode Michael Ahmed:
“I was displaced by a hurricane twice. So my journey hit a rock along the way, but the kind words from Dr. Daria, the support I received really helped me navigate the program with ease, ultimately. Dr. Anushka, Professor —, Professor Stanislav, and other amazing instructors made the subject very relatable and bearable. This is a very good program. It's an excellent program, actually. I've been through rigorous programs at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, I will tell you this tops the list in terms of rigor.”
- Juan Enrique Núñez-Ríos:
“We explored a wide range of subjects: from probability theory and linear models, structural equations, data mining and machine learning to advanced network analysis. Although, I am not mentioning every course, none of them was offered in isolation - each one contributed to developing a critical perspective, understanding a logic behind each technique and applying that knowledge to real world scenarios. The program provided all the necessary resources to ensure that no one was left behind. So, dear colleagues, today we close this chapter with pride and gratitude, and we walk not only with a degree, but also with confidence that we developed these skills to face any challenge ahead.”
We wish all our graduates success in their careers!
