Three ISSEK Faculty Members Recognized as “Best Teachers” by Student Vote

The Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) at HSE University proudly celebrates the recognition of three outstanding faculty members as Best Teachers for the academic year 2024-2025, based on student votes. This distinction reflects the deep appreciation of the student community for the professors’ academic excellence, mentorship, and commitment to education.

Valeriya Vlasova

Director of two core courses related to compiling and using STI indicators: Measurement of R&D and Measurement of Innovation. Head of the Unit for Innovation Studies, Research Fellow at the Laboratory for Economics of Innovation, and Associate Professor at ISSEK. Valeriya is a graduate from our Master’s programme (2017), holds a PhD in economics and is an expert with nearly 10 years of research, project work and policy advice experience in the field of science and innovation. Her fields of expertise include business innovation strategies, industry–science cooperation, statistics of science and innovation, and the performance of innovation systems.

Mikhail Gershman

Associate Professor and Head of the STI Policy Department at ISSEK. He leads two foundational courses in the Master’s Programme: STI Policy: Basis and STI Policy: Domains, and one elective: Managing Creativity. He has authored more than 50 publications on STI policy, innovation management, and the creative economy. Dr. Gershman has coordinated and conducted numerous national and international research and consulting projects, providing strategic advice to Russian corporations and federal authorities. He holds a PhD in Economics and Public Administration.

Ekaterina Streltsova

Director of the course Seminar of the Mentor "Scientific Research Methods for STI" (1st and 2nd year). Director of the Center for Statistics and Monitoring of STI at ISSEK and Senior Research Fellow. She holds a PhD in Sociology and leads one of the research projects under the HSE Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Center. Her areas of expertise include R&D and innovation statistics, patent analysis for technological forecasting, and research on the digitalization of society. She also leads several large-scale research projects on this topic and is the author of numerous academic publications and expert commentaries in the media.

This recognition, chosen by the students themselves, highlights the crucial role that ISSEK’s faculty play in shaping future experts in science, technology, and innovation management and policy.
