This project foresees the use of sustainable organic materials to develop networks of urban components. In particular, Interlace 0 investigates the capabilities of natural cotton fibres as a tensile material and bioplastics as binding and compressing materials.

How does it work?
Data is accumulated in the system in order to form the future generation of the structure. It is also represented in an interactive system to create an open transparent interface: as a citizen enters the zone around the urban location, the saturation of built-in light increases and the colour turns to warmer shades so as to attract people to engage in communication. The physical structure consists of a continuous model, which was discretized to a number of panels, each of which has been customized through weaving by an industrial robotic arm. The research indicates the potential of computational design and construction through its incorporation of structural capacities, material behaviour and fabrication logics.
