International workshop ‘Moscow 2050’ started in Shukhov Lab

On October 21, the chief architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov and the head of Shukhov Lab Vicente Guallart, delivered the introductory lecture of the ‘Moscow 2050’ workshop in the laboratory. Within two weeks the selected participants of the workshop together with students of the Master's programme ‘Prototyping future cities’, will develop a vision of Moscow 2050 for the pavilion at the Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism 2019 in Shenzhen.

International workshop ‘Moscow 2050’ started in Shukhov Lab

Participants, together with students, were divided into research blocks: re-naturalisation and biodiversity, local food, energy & water self-sufficiency, green materials, smart transport, urban big data, cultural inclusion, social inclusion: kids and eldery. Within each topic they will develop concepts, animation and 3D modeling, diagrams and maps, collages, photos and videos. During the study, students will answer a number of questions: what determines Moscow today and how to transform it in the future? What are the main challenges and opportunities Moscow will face by 2050? What strategies and tools can be used to transform the city?

17 participants were selected out of 60 applications by experted jury.

The workshop is launched by the international laboratory for experimental urban design Shukhov Lab of the HSE University together with the Moscow City Architecture and Urban Planning Committee. The Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism 2019 in Shenzhen is the largest exhibition in Asia dedicated to the urban challenges of our time. In 2019, the event is dedicated to the theme ‘Urban space + technological innovation’.
