Instructional Design for Adaptive Learning

On October 24-25, 2018, Sberbank Corporate University held a series of certification programs from the leading global association of professionals in the field of corporate training and professional development (Association for Talent Development – ATD). Veronika Belousova, head of Unit for Intellectual Services Market Research (Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge, HSE University), and Ivan Krechetov, head of Laboratory of Instrumental Modelling and Learning Systems at the TUSUR University, told about the course 'Instructional Design for Adaptive Learning'.

Adaptive learning is highly required. Breakthrough technologies and machine learning make it possible to achieve significant results in the sphere of adaptive learning. We are talking about the possibility to consider the level of knowledge, needs and abilities, existing educational and professional experience of current learners. In addition, predictive analytics allows us to manage educational paths in a more effective way. The aim of this particular ATD's program is to develop adaptive e-learning courses, to apply best practices, to cope with emerging challenges in designing courses based on the principle of adaptive learning.

Ivan Krechetov
Head of Laboratory, TUSUR

Adaptive learning is a good example of a customized knowledge intensive service. Every learner takes an individual track, full of challenges, but at the same time it becomes attractive, as it is always in line with real-time context added to previously gained knowledge. However, it makes crucial for developers of such educational product to run market research to find out the real needs and expectations of learners and assess their current qualification level, as well as follow up with stakeholders’ expectations. In this situation, the concept 'Know Your Customer' becomes highly demanded.

Head of Unit for Intellectual Services Market Research, ISSEK HSE

If these principles are maintained, adaptive thinking and learning can optimize company’s personnel expenses as well as enhance effectiveness and interactivity referred to educational programs.

Participants, who successfully completed the program, received the certificates from the ATD Association, confirming the acquisition of professional competencies in accordance with the international standards in the field of lifelong learning.
