Seminar "Effectiveness of therapy "Verb Network Strengthening Treatment " behavioral and neuroimaging data"
The study was supported by a grant RFBR №13-06-00651
On February 25, Maria Ivanova, Ekaterina Iskra, Svetlana Kuptsova, Olga Soloukhina and Elena Kozintseva held a seminar of the laboratory. They presented the results of the research aimed at studying the influence of speech therapy on the patterns of neuronal reorganization in patients. Within a 6-week rehabilitation course there was conducted an FMRI study of neuronal activation changes in patients during the naming of actions before and after intensive speech therapy. During the therapy patients named arguments and semantic scenarios for each of the trained verb, which contributed to an increased activation of neural networks and simplified the extraction of words in sentences and discourse. One of the results was that extensive lesions of temporal and frontal parts of the brain pointed to the increasing right hemisphere activation components, mainly in the inferior frontal parts.
