HSE Summer Health Day 2014

Hundreds of students, staff and alumni of the Higher School of Economics, as well as students of the HSE Lyceum and friends of the university, took part in the traditional HSE Summer Health Day at the Kant sports centre.

Various competitions and master classes in mountain biking, paintball, and frisbee took place under the supervision of experienced instructors from HSE’s X-Sport Club and the Department of Physical Training.

‘We weren’t lucky with the weather. It rained at times and it was quite windy and cold. We were afraid that people would be scared to spend the whole day outside, but once again we were reassured that bad weather cannot stop the HSE’s participants,’ said HSE’s Deputy Director for Corporate Projects Tatyana Zakharova. On Health Day, it was possible to wait out the rain in specially equipped tents and other shelters, and moreover, hot food and tea was organized for the guests.

From noon until the late evening, event participants played in intense rounds of paintball at a specially created sports area with inflatable structures and wooden figures. In addition, ‘downhill’ riding competitions (Xsportclub Championship) for experienced athletes took place on a tract prepared and equipped on a hill. ‘This discipline is actually Formula-1 for mountain biking. There was really something to watch here, but no less captivating was the democratic (for all viewers) competition in cross-country mountain biking called the HSE-Illuminator. Winners in the cross-country style were Sergei Proskurin, Andrei Zakharov, Denis Asaimov, Vasily Shkuratov, Belikto Budayev, and Alexander Kaprov among the men, and among the women — Victoria Shtykova,” said the head of X-Sport Club, Harry Rutberg.

News, photos and announcements for planned projects of the X-Sport Club are published on the club’s website and on its VKontakte page.
