Student Delegation from Singapore Coincides with Master Class by Professor Desai Narasimhalu

From July 5-12, the HSE Innovation and Enterprise Office is hosting a visit by Singapore students. Their programme will include educational, as well as cultural and entertainment activities. Included in the programme is a master class by Professor Desai Narasimhalu, known by many as the sensei of the innovation industry.

Students from the Singapore Management University arrived on Saturday, July 5. Over the weekend, they were given a sightseeing tour of Moscow and a river cruise. The students were surprised by how beautifully Moscow is designed, how green it is and how friendly the people are.

On Monday, July 7, the business portion of the students’ trip began with a visit to the HSE Business Incubator. While there, they met with its director, Julia Molchanova, who talked about the process of selecting residents and working with them. During the second half the day, students went to the Innovation and Enterprise Office, where its head, Anastasia Tyurina, talked about the innovation development policy being established at the HSE and programmes offered at the university to support innovative entrepreneurship.

During their study mission in Moscow, students have the task of analysing the work of 12 Russian start-ups from various industries and proposing growth strategies for each company. The students feel that the biggest challenges facing Russian innovative companies are a lack of attention, user-friendliness on corporate websites and often inadequate marketing campaigns. The recommendations include, among other things, expanding beyond Russia into other high-growth areas, such as Africa, China, or CIS countries.

The HSE Innovation and Enterprise Office plans to continue its cooperation with Prof. Narasimhalu who has suggested setting up an internship scheme under which students from Institute of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Singapore Management University will come to Russia to work at start-up companies.

On July 10, Professor Desai Narasimhalu will give a master class called, ‘The Innovation Ecosystem of Singapore. Prospects for Russia’s Cooperation with the Asian Region in the Development of the Innovation Business’ at the Russian Venture Centre. Although the master class is part of the student visit, the focus will be on offering the HSE’s Russian students the opportunity to learn about Singapore's innovation ecosystem, as well as the role of the state and the contemporary university in shaping that ecosystem.
