‘Heroes among Us’ Collects Money for Graduation Party for Children in Care, and a Sportsground

On June 4, 2015, the ‘Heroes among Us’ charity fair took place in the ZIL Cultural Center, involving students involved in charitable initiatives at HSE, MGIMO, MGU, and MIFI. The idea of creating a forum for the exchange of experience in this area was developed by two of HSE’s student projects – Open Your Eyes, and ICEF Outreach.

The roundtable ‘Barriers that don’t exist: how to drop prejudice and start helping’ was a highlight of the day. It involved representatives of major charitable organizations – Give Life (Valery Panyushkin), Liza Alert (Irina Vorobeva), Age and Joy (Ksenia Chudinova), Help Needed (Mitya Aleshkovsky), Galchonok Charity Fund (Yana Yurkevich), Hospital Clowns (Konstantin Sedov), Volunteers to help child orphans (Elena Alshanskaya).

Training seminars also took place, led by representatives of charitable organizations and public projects ‘Great Changes’, ‘Renova’, ‘Young Capitals’, AIESEC Russia, Street Temple.

HSE students organized the handmade jewelry fair and bake sale. The programme also included a considerable entertainment programme including masterclasses in felt-toy making, mehndi, poetry, short film marathon, photo exhibition.

The day closed with a grand concert and charity auction involving Petr Nalich, the Russian Academy of Music graduate choir  and the Caramba Cover group.

In total they raised 88,500. This money will go toward helping state care facilities for children that are affiliated with HSE. ICEF Outreach will organize a graduation party for a children’s home in Elatme, and Open Your Eyes will build a sportsground at Kolchuginsky Care Home.

Service Learning Programme Launched at Russia’s Universities

On September 5th, which is the International Day of Charity, the Service Learning programme was launched at many of the country’s universities. HSE University hosted a meeting with deputy deans and faculty project managers, followed by a large NGO fair, where both students and HSE University staff got to know more about  partner NGOs and planned further joint projects.

Season VI of Science Battles at HSE University is entering the homestretch. The June semi-final determined the list of finalists and helped many viewers choose their favourites. This time, young researchers decided to figure out how to conduct a police lineup without destroying a person’s life, as well as how to improve a child’s academic performance without instilling neurotic perfectionism. They also found out that fungi and mould help heal scars and save the environment, and that adherents of post-feminism have very mixed feelings about their own images on TikTok.

Smart Medicine, Libration Points and Electromyographic Bracelets: MIEM Students Present Their Projects

To See by Touch: HSE Students Raise Funds for the Project ‘The World Through the Eyes of the Blind’

Students of the Bachelor's programme in Business Administration at HSE Nizhny Novgorod are implementing ‘The World Through the Eyes of the Blind’ public initiative as part of a project seminar. The students are holding exhibitions and workshops to raise funds through the crowdfunding platform Planeta.ru in order to install a radio system in a boarding school for blind and visually impaired students and to draw attention to the problems of people with visual disabilities.

Road of Kindness: HSE University Students to Hold Charity Run in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod

On September 4, the Road of Kindness charity run will take place in Gorky Park. The event is timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of HSE University, and was organised by the university’s students in cooperation with the Student Initiative Support Centre and the Centre for Leadership and Volunteer Work. The event is also being held in Nizhny Novgorod.

‘Very Little Money Can Solve Very Big Problems’

Mariam Margaryan, a graduate of the HSE University Economics and Statistics programme, HSE University lecturer, and the Fundraising Director of the Friends Foundation, says that she got into philanthropy by accident. As a student of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences, she planned to forge a career in a large consulting company. She spoke of her path to NGOs, her favourite social projects and her work at the University in an interview with the HSE University Project-Based Learning Laboratory of Economic Journalism.

Submarine and French Confectioner's Shop—Winners of the Top Class Research Competition Announced

This year’s final stage of Top Class, the All-Russian Competition of Schoolchildren’s Research and Projects, held by HSE University, has come to a close. About a thousand 8th—11th graders from 7 countries and 69 regions of Russia participated in the contest. The winners and runners-up were announced at the closing ceremony in the HSE Cultural Centre. They received special prizes from partner companies.

Winning Research Initiative Projects to be Implemented by the End of 2022

In April, the results of the Research Initiative student project competition were announced at HSE University. Twenty-two team applications were submitted by students of 20 different fields of study at HSE University’s campuses in Moscow, Perm, and Nizhny Novgorod. Based on the results of expert assessment, the competition committee approved 17 interdisciplinary projects to be implemented by December 2022.

HSE University Holds School of Snow in Perm Region

On February 15–17, the Winter SOS (School of Snow) was held at the Zhebrei ski resort. The event was organised by the HSE Perm Tourist Club and the Student and Alumni Centre. In addition to learning to ski and snowboard, students from all HSE University campuses developed and defended projects focused on the development of domestic tourism in their regions.
