HSE Team Makes It to the Regional Finals of CFA Institute Research Challenge

A team from HSE has made it to the Regional Finals of the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2015/2016, recently held in Chicago. The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis.

Winning teams from local competitions in their countries have the opportunity to take part in the regional championship.  This year 106 teams from some of the leading universities around the world took part in the CFA Institute Research Challenge regional finals.

In Chicago, the HSE team became one of the six finalists in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and thus, among the best teams in the world.

This is the best Russian achievement in the history of the competition, organized annually by the CFA Institute.

The HSE team was represented by Vyacheslav Kabaev, 2nd year MA ICEF student, Sofya Kondratieva, 3rd year BA ICEF student, Vitaly Pentegov, 1st year MA Financial Analyst student at HSE’s Banking Institute, Vladimir Seleznyov, 1st year MA Strategic Corporate Finance student, and captained by Sergei Stepanov, 2nd year MA Strategic Corporate Finance student. The team was trained by lecturers from the HSE’s Banking Institute.

Second year Software Engineering students Anton Kondrashov and Alexander Lazarenko have taken first place in the Robot Battle hackathon organized by Yandex. Participants had to write a bot for any popular messaging service, that could quickly and easily solve users’ payment problems.
