HSE among Top-3 Russian Universities in Webometrics Ranking
The Higher School of Economics (HSE) has placed 711th in the Webometrics ranking, improving its position twofold compared to the last half. HSE took third place among the leading Russian universities.
Webometrics builds its ranking based on information available on university websites and assesses this according to various parameters. This time, HSE improved greatly thanks to its heightened performance in ‘Excellence’. Furthermore, its share in the total ranking is 30%. This indicator is calculated on the basis of 10% of the most quoted university papers in appropriate academic fields over the last five years.
Webometrics also assesses university websites’ ‘Impact’ (average number of external links to a given university website), ‘Presence’ (total number of webpages published on a university’s main domain), and ‘Openness’ (number of PDF files with open access).
A total of seven Russian universities are in the ranking’s Top-1000: MSU (186th), Saint Petersburg State University (557th), HSE (711th), MEPhI (901st), ITMO (905th), and MIPT (921st).
The Webometrics ranking has been published twice a year since 2004. It covers over 24,000 universities, 12,000 of which hold places in the ranking. The ranking’s methods are often changed, which, according to its creators, encourages universities to improve the information they provide about their programmes on the web.
