Seminar on ‘ Social capital accumulation and effects at local level: evidence from Latvia ’

On September 27 a research seminar from the series ‘Culture Matters’ will be held at HSE. Guido Sechi (PhD, University of Latvia) will speak on ‘Social capital accumulation and effects at local level: evidence from Latvia’. The event is organized by the Laboratory for Socio-Cultural Research.

Abstract:

The seminar will outline the results of original research carried out by the presenter in the domain of micro level social capital accumulation and effects in the Republic of Latvia. In particular, the following dynamics will be outlined: a) impact of social capital dimensions on knowledge and creativity; b) generalized trust accumulation and impact on personal identity; c) impact of social capital on knowledge exchange in mixed physical-virtual communities of practice. Different trends along geographical (urban / rural), ethnic, and socio-demographic lines will be outlined. Features of social capital in Latvia and comparison with Russia will also be discussed.
