What Businesses HSE Graduates Have

The Alumni Centre has published a study tracking graduate entrepreneurial activities. The study is ongoing, and any HSE graduate with their own business can participate.

There is a Faculty of Business and Management at HSE. Students from USA, Chile, Russia, India, Spain, and other countries study there. It is very likely that many of them are future entrepreneurs, executives and top managers, and innovators in e-business. But do only graduates of this faculty become businesspeople? Of course not. Graduates who start their own businesses come from a wide range of faculties. According to many of them, the university environment itself fosters an entrepreneurial spirit, no matter whether you are a psychologist or political scientist. ‘HSE is an incubator for successful people. Students help to develop the business environment and culture here as well’, believes Evgeny Tsaplin, HSE graduate and currently lecturer at the Faculty of Business and Management.

The Alumni Centre decided to test this statement. As part of the Project Fair, it carried out the first study of graduates’ businesses, aimed at tracking the entrepreneurial trajectories of HSE alumni. The Centre interviewed 203 HSE graduates who have started their own businesses and revealed what faculty prepares more businesspeople and in what countries they do business.

This data will probably help current HSE students decide where they can apply their knowledge most successfully, as well as helping them to discuss their internships or jobs, since mutual thinking guarantees success for the whole team. According to Maxim Chernin, head of 'Sberbank Insurance', ‘The HSE has been a good source of recruitment – quite a few of my staff are HSE graduates and students and it helps that the campus is located across the street from our office. Working with HSE alumni is like the life insurance market: the potential is huge, the territory is unspoilt and there is room for great deeds’.
