New Forms of Student Project Support and 140 Student Associations Registered at HSE in 2017

On January 25, HSE Vice Rector Igor Chirikov and staff of the Student Initiative Support Centre met with the heads of the University’s student associations. The participants of the meeting, which was organized by the HSE Student Council, summarized the results and outcomes of HSE’s jubilee year 2017, as well as discussed plans for 2018.

2017 in Brief

In 2017, HSE launched a procedure to register student associations. By year’s end, HSE had registered 140 student associations, which conducted over 1,000 events.

Here’s some more statistics: a total of 190 projects were submitted for the Student Project Contest this year, and 34 of them received funding from HSE, for a total of 3.7 million roubles. The next Student Project Contest kicks off on February 1.

Another 600,000 roubles were assigned for basic funding and the simplified student project contest.

All procedures, with the exception of basic funding, are available not only for registered student associations, but for any HSE students carryout out their own projects.

In addition to funding, HSE offers information support for student projects. This year, Studlife, a website about student life, was launched, where student associations share news and announcements, as well as 10 sites for student projects. The Studlife group on VK also shares information on such projects. All of these resources are maintained by students with the assistance of the Student Initiative Support Centre’s staff.

Actually, HSEcoin is not a cryptocurrency, but a crowdfunding platform, which can help ensure the effective operation of student associations. In fact, students get to decide who they want to support. The Beta launch of the project is slated for April – June. If you want to become a programme tester and donate your HSEcoin to your favourite student association, just follow the updates on the website and the Studlife group (information on registration will be available there). In September, a full launch will take place, which means that all HSE students and staff will be able to take part in the crowdfunding process.

Furthermore, on February 1, the Studlife project will be re-launched. It will feature more communication with external media, new formats, and an option for joining the team. If you want to become part of this, you can learn more about at the Project Fair. In regards to the fair, it has been decided that student associations should be able to promote their service projects at the event.

Also, if you need a photo camera, a microphone, or maybe a ‘chroma’ key, the Student Initiative Support Centre will be lending out equipment starting from February. Furthermore, there will also be an option to apply for non-academic mobility grants through competitions.
