Gernot Saalmann to speak ' Modernity, Modernization and Globalization: Taking a Look at India '

The School of Sociology invites you to the lecture of Dr. Gernot Saalmann (University of Freiburg, Germany) 'Modernity, Modernization and Globalization: Taking a Look at India'.

Apart from being scientific concepts “modernity”, “modernization” and “globalization” are part of everyday language and political talk. Therefore, they often have been criticized for being imprecise or value-laden.

The first part of the talk will consist of some general reflections on the concepts and in how far they still may be useful. In the second part the focus is on the discussion about these concepts in India and the reality they try to grasp.
