International students have been enrolled in HSE undergraduate and graduate programmes this academic year. About 800 people will study on Russian government scholarships while the rest will pay tuition fees. Compared to last year, the number of international students among first-year fee-paying students has increased by about 80%.
According to Rossotrudnichestvo data, HSE is among the top five Russian universities that are most popular with foreigners (with 2032 applications submitted through this organization). The other universities include the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Kazan (Privolzhsky) Federal University, and the Ural Federal University. St. Petersburg State University is in the first place.
As Ivan Prostakov, HSE Vice Rector, noted, increases in the number of international students enrolled at HSE contributes to the development of the university, as it enables integration into the global education market and serves as an incentive for the development of infrastructure and services, which brings benefits not only for international students, but also for Russians.
Among the countries with the highest enrollment are Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, China, Italy, Moldova, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan. The most popular fields of study among undergaduates are management, economics, law, political science, design, media communications, applied maths, and computer science. International students enrolled in Master's programmes were predominatly interested in management, economics, finance, business informatics, and political science.
International students applying to HSE’s undergraduate programmes can receive scholarships that fully or partially cover their tuition costs. Some of these scholarships are awarded based on entrance exam results. So far, students from 113 countries have expressed their interest in studying at HSE University. For the 2019/2020 academic year, HSE University is offering 10 Bachelor’s programmes and 31 Master’s programmes taught entirely in English.
