Italy’s Ambassador to Russia Pasquale Terracciano made HSE Banking Institute Director Vasily Solodkov a Knight of the Italian Order of the Star for his exceptional scholarly contribution to the advancement and development of friendly relations and cooperation between Italy and Russia.

Professor Solodkov initiated several important joint projects with the Bank of Italy and various Italian universities, including the highly regarded seminar ‘Money, Finance, and Unconventional Risk Management’ at the University of Siena. He has also organised lecture series featuring Italian scholars and experts from the Higher School of Economics.

Ambassador Terracciano emphasised that Professor Solodkov’s work made a valuable intellectual contribution to the Italian business community in Russia, as his expertise proved crucial in conducting an accurate assessment of the economic phenomena underway and preparing the most appropriate investment strategies.

Vasily Solodkov graduated from the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia in 1983. He then went on to study at various prestigious universities such as Harvard Business School and City, University of London. Professor Solodkov spent many years as the head of the HSE Faculty of Economics’ banking department and is the creator of the HSE Banking Institute, where he serves as director. A former Fulbright professor in the U.S., he has also worked for the World Bank in Washington DC. Professor Solodkov is a permanent member of key professional expert councils and associations and is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Russian Microfinance Centre. He actively participates in international conferences and forums, representing the interests of the Russian financial sector.
