On April 3 the School of Business Administration at the Faculty of Business and Management will hold a guest lecture on "Health Financing and Spending Sustainability in Leading Emerging Markets EM7 / BRICs with  the Emphasis on  the  Russian Federation - Impact of the Global Population Ageing " held by Mihajlo Jakovljevic.

Organization of the event is supported by Department of Health Care Administration and Economy at the Faculty of Social Sciences (School of Public Administration).

Professor Mihajlo (Michael) Jakovljevic MD, PhD is a European Health Economist, Clinical Pharmacology Specialist and a Full Time Professor heading Department of Global Health Economics and Policy at The University of Kragujevac, historical capital of Serbia. Since 2018 he is appointed to serve on behalf of prestigious WHO EACHR Committee in advisory capacity to the Cabinet of WHO Regional Director for Europe. Currently he remains engaged as Visiting Research Fellow at Lund University, Sweden, Division of Health Economics. He serves as an external network affiliate of the Center for Health Trends and Forecasts; Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation​ at the University of Washington​, Seattle, USA. So far he was holding Visiting Research or Teaching positions at Hosei University Tokyo, (Japanese National Center for Population Aging), Lund University, Sweden, Vienna Medical University, Austria, Ghent University, Belgium, Aarhus University Denmark, DZA, Berlin Germany and Ljubljana University, Slovenia.

He is a frequent speaker in the field, across Europe, Middle East and Far East, having published 170+ full length papers in indexed, high impact journals (Cumulative Impact Factor app. 1000+, Citation Count 8400+, H factor 32, i-10 index 73). His scholarly work appeared inLANCET, Health Economics, Lancet HIV, European Journal of Health Economics, Value in Health, Plos One, JAMA Oncology, JAMA Pediatrics, Expert Reviews in Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, Journal of Medical Economics and top ranked clinical journals. Many of the published studies were joint academic research projects with a variety of EU, US and Japanese universities funded by different national or federal funding agencies. These health economic estimates relate to conditions such as: risky pregnancies, depression, cancer, addiction disorders, COPD, diabetes and technologies ranging from radiation oncology, monoclonal antibodies, alternative and complementary medicine, psychotherapy, surgery, orthopedic implants to the interventional radiology. Professor Jakovljevic runs the largest, budget financed, research project in Health Economics in Serbia. Back in 2014 he published as Editor in Charge the first complete university textbook in health economics in former Yugoslavia / Western Balkans region.

Currently he serves in various editorial roles on behalf of 17 international journals:Globalization and Health, Frontiers in Public Health, Expert Review of Pharmacoeconomics & Outcomes Research, Journal of Medical Economics, Value in Health Regional Issues (VIHRI), Frontiers in Pharmacology, Chinese Journal of Clinicians (CJC), Journal of Health Services Research and Managerial Epidemiology, Journal of Health Behavior and Public Health (HBPH), South East European Journal of Public Health (SEEJPH), Eastern European Journal of Economics and Business (EEBEJ),  Farmeconomia - Health economics and therapeutic pathways, Athens Journal of Health, International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction and Traditional Medicine Research. He is a member of IHEA, ISPOR, EuroCRIS, Japanese HEA; ISPOR Japan and ESBRA. For his deeds and professional standing he was the only nominated candidate for IHEA (International Health Economics Association) board of Directors Election based in Eastern Europe, in spring 2015. Since 2016, Michael serves at the Academy of Medical Sciences Belgrade (established 1976) of The Serbian Medical Society (established 1872) being the youngest member ever elected in history of the Academy. Professor Jakovljevic’s long term focus of interest remains on health financing and affordability issues in the emerging global markets.

His areas of expertise include Global Health, Global Burden of Disease Project, Big Data, Health care financing & expenditures / Evaluation of policy, programs and health system performance / Organization of health care markets / Health Economics, Emerging Markets.
