Georg Witte to Speak on 'Instead of Approximate Precision – Precise Approximation.“ Jan Satunovsky’s Poor Poetry'

Event ended
School of General and Applied Philology, School of Philology, St Petersburg School of Arts and Humanities will hold  a joint seminar 'Languages of Culture'. Georg Witte will present a report on  'Instead of Approximate Precision – Precise Approximation.“ Jan Satunovsky’s Poor Poetry' on May 28 at 18:10.

Abstract:

The lecture will address the poetry of Yan Satunovsky, a representative of the "Lianozovo" group (1950s/1960s), a circle of samizdat authors and nonconformist artists. The focus will be on the methodical 'impoverishment' of key components of the poetic language (rhythm, the controversial issue of a ‘prosaization’ of poetry, demonstrative use of simple forms from children's poetry and urban folklore, scarcity of images and 'graphic' visualization of the world represented, demythologization of names). The international context of an aesthetics of poverty as well as issues related to the translation of poems are also discussed.
