XXI April Academic Conference: Session ‘ Energy and Climate: Economics and Politics ’

The session ‘Energy and climate: Economics and politics’ will be held on the 29th of May, from 12 to 1:30 pm (Moscow time) within the framework of the XXI April Conference organized by HSE University. The session will cover three reports on climate and energy policy perspectives in different countries.

The following reports will be presented at the session:

I. Semykina (University College London) ‘One Belt, One Road, and One Pipeline: the New China's Approach to Energy Security

The study is aimed to assess the energy security problems that China faces and analyze existing approaches to ensuring energy supply. The motives and role of the implementation of the "one belt, one road" initiative in solving the problem of energy security, which are poorly studied in modern literature, will be shown.

I. A. Stepanov (HSE), A. A. Spaderova (HSE), T. A. Ovchinnikova (HSE), D. A. Serova (HSE), E. E. Muzychenko (HSE), N. D. Agikyan (HSE) ‘What does the world's climate policy ambition depend on?

The study aims to systematize the factors that influence climate policy in different countries. The conclusions of research are based on factor and cluster cross-country analysis of a number of indicators (level of development, energy security, etc.) and demonstrate what determines the ambition and specificity of climate policy in developed and developing countries.

The working language of the session is English. The format of the event is Zoom-conference.
