Four Campuses and One Long-Awaited Headliner: HSE University-Wide Graduation to Be Held on July 3
This year for the first time in HSE history, the graduation ceremony will take place at one time for all four HSE campuses. Almost 11,000 students from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, and Perm will gather online to bid the university farewell and celebrate the next chapter in their lives.
HSE Graduation 2020 will be held remotely on VK (vkontakte.ru). This will allow almost 11,000 students from all of HSE University’s four campuses as well as HSE staff to celebrate the momentous event together.
The event has a lot of surprises in store for guests: from a video call from HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov to a large-scale Screenlife show. But the main event of the graduation festivities will be the concert, which will begin at 8 pm. Lucky grads will have the opportunity to dance on the same stage as Valery Meladze – the headliner of the evening!
If you want to perform on stage with Valery, make sure you participate in the flash mob: make a video of yourself dancing to your favorite Meladze song, upload it to VK with the hashtag #хочунасценукмеладзе (#bringmeonstagemeladze), and wait for the winners to be announced. A select number of the most creative submissions will be chosen, and with a bit of luck, YOU may find yourself on stage with Valery!

The International Preparatory Year programme held its graduation ceremony in July. This academic year, 125 students from 50 countries were enrolled in the programme. They will continue their studies at Russian universities, most of them pursuing bachelor's and master's programmes at HSE University. The graduation was organised as a quest, where the students were able to demonstrate their achievements in learning the Russian language. Graduates from Ecuador, Syria, and Mexico shared their impressions with the HSE News Service, Deputy Director Polina Shanko talked about plans for the coming year, and mathematics teacher Vladimir Gordin gave his advice to future students.
‘HSE Is You’
On July 4, HSE University graduates celebrated their graduation with Little Big, a vibrant punk rave band, - this was the University’s gift to the students. The concert drew students, graduates from previous years, and HSE University staff: over 5,000 people attended the event.

The theme of this year’s HSE graduation party, which was held at Moscow’s Izvestia Hall, was ‘Bond’. Party-goers enjoyed espionage contests, British humor and, of course, plenty of music.
