HSE’s current round of International Recruitment
HSE is the midst of an ambitious round of recruitment from the international job market. The university is hoping to attract top-level scholars with PhDs from recognized international research universities who will produce world-class research, provide some limited teaching, and serve as an example to other academic staff and students of the highest standards of excellence.
Within the past five years, HSE has been systematically recruiting fulltime, tenure-track academic staff from the international market, starting in economics. A little over two years ago, the first academics under international contracts began in management and in sociology, and last year in political science. In all, by the beginning of the 2012/13 academic year, HSE has 34 staff under international contracts.
These contracts, in contrast to faculty hired locally with foreign PhDs or Russian degrees, not only conform to international norms but emphasize the pursuit of world-class research since teaching loads are kept purposefully low. HSE also offers its internationally-recruited staff generous research support including travel to help overcome the relative isolation of working from Moscow.
For the 2013/14 academic year, HSE is actively recruiting in twelve different disciplines as represented by the vacancy notices posted on this website. In management and economics, the final flyouts and interviews have been scheduled and will take place through mid-February. For sociology, political science, international relations, history, and psychology, the respective academic screening committees should complete their work by mid-February and we hope to be in contact with the applicants shortly thereafter. In philosophy, media and communications, education, philology, and applied mathematics, application deadlines are in February.
In addition, HSE began an effort to attract post-doctoral researchers last year with three fellows in sociology. A new round of ads for one-year post-doc vacancies has begun: these are posted on this website with respect to a number of research centers and laboratories at HSE.
