Professorial Breakfast for Prospective Students
The HSE Nizhny Novgorod welcomed high-achieving prospective students and their parents to a ‘professorial breakfast’ on campus to meet with university staff.
The students were selected specially from local schools across Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod region for winning gold medals, performing well in academic Olympiads, or scoring high grades in the Unified State Exam. They were: Alexander Tarasov (Nizhny Novgorod, Gymnasium No. 184), Anastasia Shunina (Nizhny Novgorod, Lyceum No. 40), Anna Kuznetsova (Nizhny Novgorod Lyceum No. 40), Alexander Tarasenko (Dzerzhinsk, Lyceum No. 21), Anna Markeeva (Vyksa, School No. 9), and Olga Smirnova (Gidrotorf village, Centre for Gifted Children).
Along with their parents, these students had the opportunity to meet with Director of the HSE Branch in Nizhny Novgorod Professor Valery Zusman, HSE Tenured Professor Valery Kalyagin, Deputy Director for Research and International Relations at the HSE Branch in Nizhny Novgorod Professor Natalya Gronskaya, and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics Ekaterina Suchkova, to discuss key concerns.
A lively conversation ensued about issues such as what their employment prospects will be on graduating from the HSE, how to get accepted and why so many applicants are rejected, and how to make sure they don’t miss out on anything. ‘A lot of people I know study here,’ said Anastasia Shunina, ‘and I know that HSE students get more than top-quality professional training, they also excel in languages. And a solid understanding of English opens up opportunities for employment in international companies or to continue studies at international institutions.’
