The Global Scholarship Competition is one of HSE University’s most significant international projects. In 2022, it will take place for the ninth time. More than 4,000 participants join the Competition every year, and the number is growing annually. This year’s Competition will run from October 20 to October 30. Stephen Deduck, from New Jersey, USA, enrolled at HSE University after spending a study-abroad semester in St. Petersburg. He received his Master’s in International Business in 2020 and is now working in an international office of an American university to help other students interested in studying abroad. Stephen spoke to us about the content of the master’s programme, the benefits of learning Russian, and why HSE University is a great choice for international students.
HSE University welcomes applicants from all over the world. The university offers online and on-campus study programmes at different levels, with instruction in English and Russian. International applicants can apply for graduate and undergraduate programmes until August 15 (11:59 pm Moscow time) and may be eligible for partial scholarships.

International Relations, Energy, and a Long-Distance Relationship with Russia: A Brazilian Student's Story
Having earned degrees in International Relations and Energy, Tulio Bunder from Brazil wanted to pursue his research in Eurasian Energy Geopolitics, which led him to the Master's programme in Comparative Politics of Eurasia. Though based in another BRICS country, he decided to study in Russia—and despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and his long-distance relationship with Saint Petersburg and HSE University, he seems happy with his choice.

Parisa Esmaeilkhani, from Iran, and Anshuman Sharma, from India, are currently studying in HSE University’s English-taught Master’s programmes. In an interview with HSE News Service, they talked about enrolling at HSE University, discovering Moscow, learning Russian, exploring the opportunities HSE University offers, and studying remotely during the pandemic.
This year, HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod will launch its Master of Computer Vision programme on Coursera. The fully online programme has been developed by leading experts from Huawei, ItSeez3D, Intel, Harman, and Xperience AI. It will be taught in English and is open to applicants from all countries. The closing date for applications is August 16, 2021.
HSE University’s online Master of Data Science programme trains specialists in contemporary data analysis, machine learning development, and research. The applications are accepted until July 19. Students of the programme hail from over 30 countries including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, India, the USA, Canada, China, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, and Switzerland. Mehmet Namli (UAE) and Alexander Olekhnovich (Russia) spoke about how they decided to become part of the global data scientist community and shared their impressions of studying remotely at HSE University.
Maria Belousova, an applicant from Uzbekistan, will become a first-year student at HSE University in autumn 2021. She will study at the HSE University Moscow campus in the School of Foreign Languages.
