International conference «Landscape Ecology: Adaptation, Resource, and Risk Management» (LEARRM – 2026)
The International Laboratory of Landscape Ecologyof the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technologiesof the Research University Higher School of Economicswith the participation of Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of SciencesSinobodo (Beijing) International Culture Co., Ltd. 16–19 June, 2026, Moscow, HSE Universityis holding the international conference«Landscape Ecology: Adaptation, Resource, and Risk Management» (LEARRM – 2026)The LEARRM-2026 Conference aims to advance landscape ecology as a scientific foundation for managing territories amid global change. The primary goal is to synthesize knowledge on landscape structure and functioning to develop strategies for climate adaptation and implement nature-based solutions. Special emphasis is placed on new monitoring and modeling methods (remote sensing, GIS, AI), as well as the role of historical factors in contemporary ecosystem dynamics. The conference serves as a platform for dialogue between science and practice, translating ecological data into effective management decisions and strengthening international collaboration in the study of Eurasian landscapes
Conference directions:
- Landscape structure and functioning;
- Landscape history, dynamics, and scenario modeling;
- Spatial organization of biological communities and biodiversity;
- Adaptation of natural and anthropogenic systems to climate change and natural and climate risks;
- Ecosystem services and nature-based solutions;
- Cultural landscapes and socio-ecological systems;
- Sustainable land management and agroecology;
- Digital landscapes: remote sensing, GIS, and big data.

About the Laboratory
The International Laboratory of Landscape Ecology was established in early 2022 in Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technologies and specializes in integrating experimental ecology, remote sensing methods, and mathematical modeling. Its key focus is the analysis of the biophysical parameters of ecosystems that supporting and regulation ecosystem services.
Key figures
Ang Li (IB CAS/HSE University) is a specialist in the landscape ecology of steppes and pastures, sustainable ecosystem management, and the separation of climatic and anthropogenic drivers of land degradation.
Alexander Khoroshev (Lomonosov Moscow State University) is a leading theorist in contemporary Russian landscape science and landscape planning. His work demonstrates how the spatial structure of a landscape can act as an independent factor of sustainability and explain differences in the functioning of geosystems at different organizational levels.
Dmitry Zamolodchikov (HSE University/CEPF RAS) is a leading expert on the global carbon cycle and climate change. He is the developer of a national methodology for accounting for greenhouse gases and adapting nature management to climate change.
Maxim Bobrovsky (HSE University/IPCBP RAS) is a leading researcher on the historical ecology of forest landscapes in Eastern Europe and the impact of past human activities on the modern landscape structure. His research demonstrates how long-term human impact determines the current resilience and restoration potential of forest ecosystems.
Tatyana Chernenkova (IG RAS), a leading researcher at the Laboratory of Biogeography, specializes in geobotany and the biodiversity of forest ecosystems. Her research interests focus on the response of plant communities to climate change and anthropogenic impacts, as well as the diagnosis of forest ecosystem disturbances.
Sergey Bazha(IPEE RAS) is a leading specialist in the ecosystems of Mongolia and Central Asia and the leader of the long-term Joint Russian-Mongolian Integrated Biological Expedition. He is involved in land degradation mapping, desertification monitoring, and the resilience of transboundary landscapes in the Lake Baikal basin.
Changliang Shao (Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences) is a leading scientist in grassland remote sensing and ecology. His research achievements on the impact of human interference and climate change on the grasslands carbon and water budget mechanisms.
Zhang Qing (Inner Mongolia University) a professor and doctoral supervisor at, primarily conducts research in grassland ecology and landscape ecology. His work focuses on the assessment of degraded ecosystems, biodiversity conservation, and enhancement of ecosystem functions on the Mongolian Plateau.
