Abstract:

Our analysis finds that AI adoption consistently reduces climate vulnerability, particularly in highly vulnerable countries, while digitalization alone shows limited direct effects. The impact of AI operates independently of institutional quality and is not significantly amplified by digital infrastructure. Results indicate that AI functions as a targeted resilience tool, delivering the strongest benefits in high-risk climate environments. These findings underscore AI’s role in climate adaptation through technological and productivity channels rather than as a mere byproduct of digitalization.
