International Conference 'Demographic History and Demographic Theory: From Description to Explanation'
On October 22-23 the international conference 'Demographic History and Demographic Theory: From Description to Explanation' will tak eplace at HSE. The event is organised by the Institute of Demography. The aim of the conference is to bring together a relatively small group of scholars and discuss the different ‘transitions’ and ‘revolutions’ as well as their interrelationship during the last fifty years.
The key research question of this conference is to discuss the current status and the prospective of the demographic transition theory. It will focus on whether the demographic transition theory will keep its paradigmatic meaning as an instrument of explanation of the current demographic changes. It will also consider the recent contributions to the development of this theory and the main challenges which it faces.
The scholars specialized on demography, sociology, history from different countries (Russia, NIS, UK, Germany, France, USA, Israel) will take part in the event.
