New Library Opens at HSE Building in Staraya Basmannaya
It will be located in Building B and is an addition to the existing library in Building A*. The new library will be a space not only for those willing to go somewhere private with a book or a tablet, but also for teams who need to get together to discuss joint research projects. The library opens on January 16 at noon. The first 300 visitors will get to participate in a prize draw, which will introduce the readers to the library’s collection.
About the Lottery
The lottery will take place on January 16 from noon to 9 pm at the new library (21/4 Staraya Basmannaya Ulitsa, Building B, Room 101, 1st floor). To get a prize, readers will draw pieces of paper with a quote and shelf number of the book from which this quote has been taken. Then, they’ll have to find the book by the number in the reading hall, show it to the librarian, and claim their prize.
The library in Building B offers textbooks and academic books in history, linguistics, philology, and physics.
The library in Building A focuses on philosophy, logics, cultural studies, and history of art.
An online resource advisor will work in the library reading room. The advisor will provide recommendations on international periodical databases, Russian newspapers and journals, online book databases etc. Please see also the full list of HSE library e-resources.
Library visitors were surveyed in order to organize the new library space. As a result, the 70 sitting places are split into different functional zones. Round and rectangular desks with and without partitions are for individual work. There are comfortable couches and armchairs with high backrests, which absorb sounds and comply with the modern ‘lean back reading’ library concept. Movable office partitions will allow visitors to create their own workplace.
A separate room with 15 sitting places is available for team work. And of course, WiFi is available throughout the library premises.
‘In addition to that, we are going to organize various information search quests, exhibitions, workshops on e-resources, including those in English, and public speaking courses at our library,’ Natalia Maximova emphasized.
The new library opening hours: 10.00 am to 9.00 pm (Monday – Friday), and to 6.00 pm (Saturday). Closed on Sundays. Closed on the first Friday of each month for cleaning.

In June 2021, HSE University and Times Higher Education (THE) held the online Young Universities Summit. 13 Buildings, 3 Atriums, 78,000 Square Meters: HSE’s New Complex at Pokrovka Awaits
On July 25, upon the approval of the Moscow City Construction Supervision and the Department of Cultural Heritage of Moscow, HSE University’s new Pokrovka complex opened its doors. The complex, located at 11 Pokrovsky Boulevard, is HSE’s largest and most modern Moscow campus. Classes will begin there in September.

HSE to Build Sport Complex in Moscow

HSE Moves Closer to the City Centre
This year, many students and staff of HSE in Moscow will change the location of their study and work. Instead of some sites in districts on the outskirts of the sity, the university is using buildings in the centre. In addition to that, faculty departments which are now scattered in various parts of the city will move closer to each other. This will allow lecturers and students to spend less time commuting.
HSE. Cornerstone: 3 Kantemirovskaya, Saint Petersburg
In September 2015, after undergoing a major overhaul, part of the HSE St. Petersburg campus opened at 3 Kantemirovskaya St., Building 1A, becoming the home of the School of Economics and Management. This building was previously the location of a weaving mill that had had several names and owners over its more than 100-year history.
