HSE University and University of Bergen Sign Cooperation Agreement
The agreement provides for academic and cultural cooperation between the universities, student exchange, and joint research.
HSE University and the University of Bergen have been partners in educational initiatives for eight years. The partnership began when the HSE Faculty of Law signed an agreement with the Norwegian university. Now, the HSE Campus in St. Petersburg has established ties with the University of Bergen, which include a student exchange programme (through which 18 HSE students studied in Bergen, and 12 Bergen students come to HSE) and teachers’ visits. The new agreement applies to all HSE departments.
According to Vadim Radaev, First Vice Rector, HSE University hopes to expand its partnership with the Norwegian university in the natural sciences, environmental studies, and socio-economic development research. Digitalization may be an area for joint research, since the University of Bergen is one of the leaders in this field.
‘Digital transformation is one of the touchstones of the 2030 HSE University Strategy,’ HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov said.

The Rector noted that HSE is Russia’s first university to launch Russian- and English-taught courses on Coursera and was one of the founders of the National Open Education Platform.
‘HSE University has a high reputation not only nationally, but internationally,’ said Dag Rune Olsen, Rector of the University of Bergen. He said that for his university, it is essential to work together with academic partners with shared values and similar ambitions. ‘We are interested in increasing the number of exchange students,’ the Rector added.
The new agreement creates more opportunities for student exchange programmes, the exchange of teaching and administrative methods, joint educational programmes, joint research, as well as the organization of research conferences and cultural events.
