History in the View of Young Russians and Americans

On July 3–13, 2013, an international summer school ‘Russia between the Past and the Present: Russian Politics, History, and Culture in Comparative Perspective’ took place in Saint Petersburg. The event was organized by the HSE Saint Petersburg Faculty of History.

The project brought together Russian HSE students and American students from the University of Pittsburgh. It was opened by a lecture course on the history of the Russian empire and the USSR. During the ten days, the students were attending lectures by leading HSE professors, and also participated in an international roundtable discussion; and, of course, they visited Saint Petersburg’s and the region’s tourist attractions. The U.S. and Russian students were posting on a joint blog, where they were discussing what they’d heard and expressing their opinions on the events.

As a result of the summer school, the students received certificates of participation from the University of Pittsburgh.
